In traditional eCommerce and wholesale structures, goods flow, money flow, and information flow are closely coupled. They are interdependent at every step of the process: information only flows if money flows, goods only flow if money flows, and the information flow is often centrally controlled.
The TEIKEI Agora breaks this pattern and intentionally decouples these three flows:
Goods Flow
Products can be transported and delivered even if no money has yet been exchanged. This enables solidarity-based action, community pre-financing, or targeted withdrawals from inventory stocks.
Money Flow
Money can flow independently of goods flow—for example, through monthly contributions to cover basic costs, fair pricing, advance payments, or harvest shares, even if no goods have been delivered yet.
Information Flow
Information about products, producers, logistics, or quantities is not tied to a specific transaction but is freely available to all members—even without purchase intent.
This decoupling fundamentally changes the economy:
Trust Instead of Control
Because processes are not technically or contractually coupled, trust, relationships, and community action are needed—instead of legal safeguards or automated system constraints.
Encounter Instead of Transaction
The human relationship takes center stage—not the shopping cart or an algorithm. Relationships and exchange emerge through real encounters and local responsibility.
Spaces for New Responsibility
People on the ground can voluntarily take on tasks—such as coordination, processing, or communication—without being immediately tied to money flow or delivery obligations.
Resilience in the Supply Chain
If one component fails (e.g., a delivery vehicle or a payment), the system continues to function—through other decentralized actors, through trust, through inventory buffers.
“What defines the TEIKEI Agora is that money flow, information flow, and goods flow are decoupled from one another. […] This means: There can be a money flow without goods flow. An information flow without money flow. And a goods flow without prior information flow. This opens completely new paths for a solidarity-based economy.”
