Introduction and Overview › Glossary for the Networking Language · 2 min read
Delivery volume refers to the quantity of goods a community receives per delivery.
It is one of the most important foundations of logistics within the TEIKEI network. It determines which transport method is economically viable for a community and which logistical structure is suitable.
Delivery volume is particularly decisive for:
It thus significantly shapes the structure of a community.
Each main community has a fixed, agreed-upon delivery volume. It is derived from the minimum costs of national delivery to its pickup location, which TEIKEI calculates with its logistics partner.
All orders for a delivery month are totaled. Each kilogram contributes to these costs based on the base rate of national delivery (€0.57 per kilogram in Germany, CHF 0.43 per kilogram in Switzerland). The delivery volume is reached when this sum covers the minimum costs.
Example: If delivery costs at least €80, then €80 ÷ €0.57 ≈ 141 kg are needed, equivalent to 18 crates of 8 kg each.
Since delivery costs depend on distance, weight, and route consolidations, the delivery volume varies for each community.
The expected delivery volume should already be considered when establishing a community.
It influences, among other things:
The calculation and examples are described in the article Delivery Volumes.
Delivery volume determines how a community can be logistically supplied and thus serves as a central planning parameter for regional food provision.
