Freiburg & Region is a regional cooperation space within the Agora structure for community-supported food, local projects, and complementary product offerings.
Here, farms, community-supported agriculture (CSA) initiatives, food co-ops, processing businesses, distribution points, and cooperative products are made visible so that members can quickly see:
- Where can I become a member?
- What harvest shares are available?
- Which additional products can be obtained through the Agora?
- What seasonal actions are possible?
- Which offerings belong directly to a project, and which arise from regional cooperation?
How to read the image: At the top are the three offering directions of this level: entry into a project (e.g., membership, trial membership, cooperative share, annual membership, or bread subscription), project-related harvest shares and products (e.g., vegetables, bread, kombucha, organic box, potatoes, fruit, or pantry items), and regional additional and seasonal offers (e.g., asparagus, strawberries, cherries, specialty bread, ferments, potato boxes, or cooperative products). Below are the projects from the offering tree; those that already have their own page are clickable, while dashed outlines indicate those without a page yet. At the bottom is what the projects can use together: regional bundling, such as at the Freiburg Wholesale Market, and the Kewi Network. Every field with ↗ opens the corresponding page in a new window.
The Freiburg level distinguishes three offering directions:
-
Entry into a project
For example, membership, trial membership, annual membership, cooperative share, or bread subscription.
-
Project-related harvest shares and products
For example, vegetables, bread, kombucha, organic box, potatoes, fruit, or pantry items.
-
Regional additional and seasonal offers
For example, asparagus, strawberries, cherries, berries, specialty bread, ferments, potato boxes, or cooperative products that are only available seasonally or within specific time windows.
This creates not just a product list, but a regional supply map.
This page is primarily aimed at the projects themselves: farms, CSAs, food co-ops, processing businesses, and regional initiatives that want to explore whether and how their offerings can become visible in the Agora.
The goal is not to replace existing structures. Each project has its own established processes, its own basic cost contributions, its own membership cycles, its own communication channels, and its own relationships with its members. This independence remains important.
However, the Agora can help make this diversity more clearly visible and connect where connection makes sense.
For each project, three simple questions arise initially:
-
What is the clear entry point into your project?
- Membership
- Trial membership
- Cooperative share
- Annual membership
- Bread subscription
- Vegetable box
- Kombucha subscription
- Other harvest share
-
Which offerings belong directly to your existing structure?
- Regular harvest shares
- Existing subscriptions
- Member offerings
- Internal ordering options
- Farm or project products
-
Which additional offerings could become visible through the Agora?
- Seasonal surpluses
- One-time harvest actions
- Specialty products
- Pantry boxes
- Cooperative products
- Products not directly tied to your existing membership
The Agora can serve several functions for projects:
- It makes visible which projects exist in the region.
- It shows interested people how they can concretely get involved.
- It can bundle additional offerings without each project having to develop its own technical solutions.
- It can help better coordinate pickup locations, delivery routes, and orders.
- It can guide people to the projects instead of replacing the relationship with the project.
- It can make seasonal actions more predictable because demand becomes visible early.
- It can help simplify processes for membership, ordering, delivery, and communication in the long term.
The most important point is: The Agora should not come between project and member. It should make the connection clearer, more discoverable, and organizationally easier.
¶ Limits and Open Questions
At the same time, it is clear: This cooperation is not just a technical product list.
Many projects have their own processes that must be carefully considered:
- Own membership models
- Own contribution cycles
- Own pickup locations
- Own communication channels
- Own product range logics
- Own limits in logistics and storage
- Own ideas about which products should be offered outside of membership
Therefore, not only individual decisions by each project are needed, but also a jointly coordinated regional framework: Each project brings its own logic, while it is collectively determined which offerings become visible and which (delivery) processes are aligned so that the projects complement each other.
A particularly important question is which products are intended only for direct members of the respective project and which products can be offered as additional items through the regional Agora—meaning that a person ordering does not need to commit to a basic cost contribution at the farm. In this case, the Agora’s basic cost contribution is sufficient to obtain the respective harvest share or additional offer.
Precisely because each project works differently, a shared, simple orientation is needed.
When all projects describe their entry points, basic cost contributions, harvest shares, additional offers, and pickup locations in a similar way, it becomes much easier for new members to understand the regional supply landscape.
In the long term, this can also lead to simplification:
- People find the right entry point more quickly.
- Projects do not have to repeatedly explain basic information.
- Pickup locations can be thought of more collectively.
- Seasonal actions can be better prepared.
- Regional bundling becomes more realistic.
- Contribution and participation models can be communicated more clearly.
This does not mean that all projects should become the same. On the contrary: The shared structure should make the differences visible without everything becoming confusing.
As a next step, it would be helpful if each interested project described its own offering logic in a simple form:
- How can one join your project?
- What basic cost contribution or harvest share is the central access point?
- Which products belong to your existing structure?
- Which additional products could be offered through the Agora?
- Which seasonal actions are conceivable?
- Which pickup locations or sub-communities belong to you?
- What should only be visible to members?
- What can be offered openly at the regional level?
From these answers, a dedicated tile, subpage, and offering structure can be created for each project.

The page is designed to show at a glance that each project has its own logic.
A bakery works differently than a CSA.
A food co-op works differently than an orchard.
A kombucha project works differently than a garden.
And yet, all can become visible within a shared regional offering structure.
The key distinction is:
- What belongs directly to the project?
- What is an entry point into membership?
- What is a regular harvest share?
- What is an additional offer?
- What is a seasonal action?
- What is a regional cooperative product?
¶ Local Level: Project Commitment and Membership
At the local level, the relationship with the respective project is central.
This is about memberships, harvest shares, trial memberships, cooperative shares, or regular subscriptions.
Examples:
- Membership at Bakery of Diversity
- Membership or trial membership at Luzernenhof
- Annual membership at Lebensgarten Dreisamtal
- Membership at Gartencoop
- Cooperative share at Piluweri
- Membership at FoodCoop L13
- Cooperative shares at Glaskiste
These offerings are not just products. They form the supporting structure of a project.
In addition to direct project membership, regional additional offers can become visible through the Agora.
These additional offers can come from a single project or emerge from collaboration among several projects.
Examples:
- A single specialty bread from the Bakery of Diversity
- A bottle of kombucha from St. Ferment
- A potato box from Piluweri or Luzernenhof
- Apples, pears, cherries, or berries from Südhof
- Pantry items from the FoodCoop
- A cooperative product like KEWI-Crunch
These offerings may be of interest to people who do not yet want to commit to full membership but wish to obtain specific regional products.
A special area is seasonal action harvest shares.
These refer to products that are only available for a short time each year but can be well planned collectively.
Examples:
- Asparagus harvest share
- Strawberry harvest share
- Cherry harvest share
- Blueberry harvest share
- Plum harvest share
- Potato pantry share
- Apple pantry box
- Tomato or preserving vegetable action
These offerings work differently than classic weekly boxes. They can be one-time, seasonal, or occur within a few delivery windows.
This makes them a good fit for the Agora: Demand can be made visible early, harvests can be better planned, and distribution can be regionally bundled.
This page makes Freiburg & Region visible as a concrete space for collaboration.
It shows not only which projects exist but also how their offerings can appear in the Agora:
- As an entry into membership
- As a regular harvest share
- As an additional product
- As a cooperative product
- As a seasonal action
- As part of a shared basic food supply
This creates a recognizable regional supply structure from many individual initiatives.
