Give to take – give to give: what the Lebensmittel Gemeinschaft Basel teaches about monetary diversity
This workshop is built as a browser-based talk. This page gives the outline and the entry to the presentation pages; each page is designed as one screen and can be opened directly in the browser.
It was created for the Monetary Diversity Gathering 2 (external) in Brussels and held there in English on Saturday, 24 October 2026. It can also be used in communities, food coops, CSAs and regional currency initiatives.
Time levels: The Lebensmittel Gemeinschaft Basel (2012–2018) is lived practice – how it was. Bringing it into the TEIKEI Agora is a request for future development – how it could be.
How do we make sure everyone has high-quality food – within the community by the principle “give to give”, between regions, countries, tribes and continents by balance and clearing?
45 minutes – about half of the time belongs to the participants: they present their own models and bring in what they see for European networking.
| Page | Section | Duration | Focus |
|---|---|---|---|
| 01 | Give to take – or give to give? | approx. 5 min | Arriving through two principles: exchange and gift |
| 02 | The Lebensmittel Gemeinschaft Basel | approx. 2 min | Association, room, farms, radius, members |
| 03 | One week, six steps | approx. 2 min | Order, bundle, store and farms, pick-up, confirm |
| 04 | Two accounts, two jobs | approx. 3 min | Francs for what leaves, LGB for what stays |
| 05 | A year without touching money | approx. 2 min | One member’s loop: buy, bake, sell, organise |
| 06 | From one place to a network: how TEIKEI began | approx. 2 min | LGB values, the wholesale wall, the step to TEIKEI |
| 07 | Your models | approx. 9 min | Participants present their own models |
| 08 | From balance to gift | approx. 4 min | Clearing between levels, gift within the community |
| 09 | European networking – what do you see? | approx. 9 min | Possibilities seen by participants |
| 10 | Harvest and open questions | approx. 6 min | Possibilities and open questions |
| 99 | Workshop close | approx. 1 min | Close, QR code, follow-up |
| 99.1 | Contacts, material and next steps | open | Material, contacts, next steps |
By the end, participants see more clearly what “give to take” and “give to give” mean for food supply, how a food community can work with two units – money for external costs, its own unit for internal work –, why TEIKEI grew out of the LGB, which models they bring themselves, and where the missing link lies in their own region.
